A wave of relief and joy washed over the Chizungu community in Epworth as they gathered to celebrate the official opening of a brand-new borehole, marking a significant shift in their daily lives.
This life-changing project, made possible through the generous collaboration of Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI) and the Upper Manyame Sub-Catchment Council (UMSCC), promises a future free from the drudgery and health risks associated with unreliable water access.
The momentous occasion was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including Cde. Mau Mau, Chairman of UMSCC, who delivered heartfelt remarks highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing water challenges. He commended KFHI for their unwavering commitment to community development and emphasized UMSCC’s dedication to ensuring equitable access to clean water for all residents within their jurisdiction.
The Chairman also encouraged members of the community to protect their borehole from vandalism and theft so as to ensure generations to come will also have an opportunity to use this borehole.
“This borehole has been handed over to you thus it’s your responsibility.
“I would like to urge the residents to be united and ensure that this borehole is well maintained and protected from vandalism and theft.”
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, Mr. Runhare, CEO of UMSCC, expressed his gratitude to KFHI for their partnership and emphasized the positive impact the borehole will have on the Chizungu community.
“A very special thanks to Pastor Hyeon for the great contribution towards the second borehole.
“Your contribution in empowering communities is commendable and we appreciate your efforts,” he said.
He encouraged residents to utilize the resource responsibly and sustainably, ensuring its long-term benefits for generations to come.
Representing KFHI, Pastor Hyeon delivered an inspiring address, reiterating their organization’s core values of empowering communities and fostering self-reliance. He expressed his hope that the borehole would not only provide clean water but also serve as a catalyst for further development and improved living standards within Chizungu.
Hon. Tayedzwa, the Member of Parliament for the constituency, joined the chorus of appreciation, thanking UMSCC and KFHI for their invaluable contribution. He acknowledged the long-standing water struggles faced by the community and urged residents to take ownership of the borehole, ensuring its proper maintenance and protection.
“This donation will go a long way in improving the lives of the community.
“Access to water had been a challenge but we are grateful for this generous donation as it will help curb diseases like cholera as people now have access to clean water,” he said.
“I hereby encourage the members of community to ensure that everyone has access to water and no one is sidelined for equal access to the precious resource.”
The significance of this event extended beyond immediate access to clean water. The Water Resources and Compliance Manager, Mrs. Matsaira delivered an informative talk, educating the community about the dangers of cholera and emphasizing hygiene practices essential for safeguarding their health and well-being.
With the borehole now operational, the Chizungu community can look forward to a brighter future. Children no longer need to spend hours fetching water, allowing them to focus on their education and personal development. Families can cook nutritious meals with ease, promoting better health and well-being. Businesses can flourish with a reliable water supply, stimulating local economic growth.
