The Dema Phase 2 community recently celebrated the commissioning of a vital borehole, a generous donation from Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI) in collaboration with the Upper Manyame Sub-Catchment Council (UMSCC). This initiative brings much-needed relief to a community facing significant water access challenges.

Represented by Pastor Hyeon, KFHI continues its partnership with UMSCC to assist disadvantaged communities in Zimbabwe. The newly installed borehole addresses a multitude of problems associated with water scarcity, including improved sanitation and hygiene, reduced burden on women and children, and improved overall community well-being.

Demonstrating remarkable community spirit, the residents of Dema Phase 2 proactively created an additional water point drawing from the donated borehole. This initiative effectively distributes the water supply, mitigating pressure on a single access point.

During the handover ceremony, the UMSCC Public Relations Officer expressed profound gratitude to Pastor Hyeon and KFHI for their unwavering support.

“We are entirely grateful to KFHI for this donation,” said Miss Chibanda.

“It is now your responsibility as Dema Community to ensure security for the borehole and responsible use of water,” she said.

The community was encouraged to manage and protect the borehole responsibly, ensuring its longevity.

Representing the UMSCC Chairman, Councillor Gata commended the community for creating the additional water point.

“I am very much impressed by the community’s efforts in putting up another water point to alleviate pressure on one water point,” said Councillor Gata.

“It shows that you’re a responsible community that shows appreciation by taking the initiative to make maximum use of the resource,” he said.

He emphasized the importance of equitable water distribution, urging residents to transcend political affiliations and ensure fair access for all community members.

Pastor Hyeon shared the heartwarming story behind the donation, revealing that it was made possible by a retired Korean couple who wished to bless disadvantaged communities in Zimbabwe. He also generously donated buckets to the community for water collection.

Councillor Gezi, the Manyame RDC Councilor for Dema ward 3, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to both KFHI and UMSCC for their invaluable contribution to the community’s well-being. This collaborative effort exemplifies the power of partnership in addressing critical needs and fostering sustainable development.
